Researcher of the Institute of Energy & the Institute of Carbon Neutrality, Peking University

Zhang Chuan is a dual hired researcher at the Institute of Energy and the Carbon Neutrality Research Institute at Peking University. He is also a doctoral supervisor, and the leader of the Low Carbon Energy and Material Systems research group. He is a joint PhD candidate from Nanyang Technological University in Singapore and the University of Cambridge in the UK, and has previously served as a postdoctoral assistant researcher and associate researcher at Princeton University in the United States. His main research interests include the analysis and optimization of low-carbon energy and material production processes, coupled transformation and utilization of renewable energy and fossil energy, aiming to assist in the clean and low-carbon production of energy and materials under the goal of carbon neutrality through interdisciplinary and multi-scale methods. Hosted and participated in multiple energy and dual carbon related projects, including the National Key R&D Program for Young Scientists, the Natural Science Foundation of China’s Dual Carbon Project, the Chinese Academy of Engineering’s Major Consulting Project, and the National Development and Reform Commission’s Carbon Peak and Carbon Neutrality Project. Some representative ongoing projects include: bio based green methanol and sustainable aviation fuel production technology and system optimization, energy system optimization control for low-carbon and zero carbon industrial parks, and comprehensive energy systems driven by offshore wind energy. Has won relevant awards such as the 2020 Global Green Elite Award and the Excellent Award at the First China Science and Technology Youth Forum.
