A winner of the prestigious China Journalism Award, Hou Liqiang now works as chief reporter in the national news department of China Daily. As an environmental reporter, he is dedicated to covering China’s progress in promoting ecological civilization and is one of the major contributors to the newspaper’s “Going Green” column.

Hou was based in China Daily’s Kenya office from 2014 to 2016, first as correspondent and then chief correspondent. He was among the first Chinese reporters to reach Mogadishu after a terrorist attack in the Somali capital in 2015 killed 15 people, including a security guard at the Chinese embassy.

A major focus of his work nowadays is climate change, with many of his reports aiming to publicize Chinese solutions in tackling the climate crisis. He also participated in the COP 24、COP 25 and COP28 United Nations climate change conferences.
