Wang Aimin is a professor at Hainan University and a Chief Scientist of fisheries carbon sink at the Hainan International Blue Carbon Research Center. He is also a member of the state-level advisory committee of marine ranching in the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs. In 1993, he was made a “National Outstanding Teacher” by the Ministry of Education and awarded the National Outstanding Teacher Medal, and in 2019, he was recognized as “Leading talent of Hainan Province”by the Talent Development Bureau of the CPC Hainan Provincial Committee.
He has long been engaged in marine fishery resources and marine economic shellfish culture technology development. He took the lead in developing the construction of Sanya Wuzhizhou Island Marine Ranching, which became the first operating tropical marine ranching in China and was awarded the title of National Demonstration Area of Marine Ranching in 2019. the marine ranching has achieved obvious economic, social and ecological benefits, and has become a model of the combination of marine ranch and marine tourism. Professor Wang has bred the first new variety of seawater pearl oyster ,“Haiyou No. 1”of Pearl oyster ,which is applied in Hainan, Guangxi and Guangdong. He is currently organizing research and development on new technologies related to carbon sink in marine ranching and fisheries. Professor Wang has presided over or participated in dozens of national-level scientific research projects, granted 35 patents for inventions, published 200 papers, 100 of which were included in SCI, and won one second-class award each for scientific and technological progress in Hainan and Guangdong provinces, a Fan Li award, a special prize for Scientific and technological progress from the China Fisheries Society.
