Director of the Composting Division, Lishui Institute of Ecology and Environment, Nanjing University; Key Executive Officer, Community Food Waste Composting Platform

Zhang Shiwen is the Director of the Composting Division at the Lishui Institute of Ecology and Environment, Nanjing University. She is also responsible for the operation and implementation of the Community Food Waste Composting Platform. Her primary work focuses on technology research and development, application promotion related to the resource utilization of organic solid waste, and environmental science popularization. She has published 5 related papers, obtained over 20 authorized domestic and international invention patents, and served as the main drafter of 3 group standards.

The Lishui Institute of Ecology and Environment, Nanjing University, in collaboration with the Vanke Foundation which provided financial support, launched a national experimental community composting program in China in December 2018. After nearly seven years of development, the program has evolved into a national platform offering professional empowerment, systematic design, and implementation in the field of community composting. It has successfully promoted community composting in 108 communities across 41 cities in 20 provinces nationwide. Furthermore, it has actively facilitated the promulgation of community composting standards, effectively contributing to the “Zero Waste City” construction and the “Dual Carbon” strategy.
