Jin Zhijun, an academician of the CAS, dean of the Institute of Energy of Peking University, professor of the Sinopec Petroleum Exploration and Production Research Institute, director of the Academic Committee of the State Energy Center for Shale Oil Research and Development, and senior member of the Sinopec Science and Technology Commission. Simultaneously serving as the Director of the Petroleum Geology Professional Committee of the Geological Society of China and the Deputy Director NEA/TC26.
He obtained a bachelor’s degree from Shandong University of Science and Technology in 1981, an associate doctoral degree from Moscow University of Oil and Gas in Russia in 1992, and a doctoral degree in geological mineralogy from the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation in 2007. He was elected as a foreign academician of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences in 2008, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2013, and a foreign academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences in 2022. He has won the Li Siguang Prize in Geological Sciences, Sun Yueqi Energy Award, and the Achievement Award for Returned Overseas Students from the Central Organization Department and other six ministries and commissions.
He has been engaged in the research and exploration practice of petroleum geological theory and strategic selection evaluation of oil and gas for a long time. Significant research achievements have been made in the areas of organic-inorganic composite hydrocarbon generation, sudden accumulation, and quantitative evaluation methods for oil and gas resources. Especially for the formation and exploration practice of oil and gas in marine carbonate rock formations in China, a “source-seal control hydrocarbon distribution area”, “coupling of source and seal control hydrocarbon distribution area” oil and gas selection evaluation method has been established. Created a geological generalized Pareto oil and gas resource evaluation method and a rapid evaluation method and software platform for overseas oil and gas projects. In the early 1990s, quantitative analysis methods for sedimentary basin fluctuations were introduced into China and have been continuously studied to this day. He paid early attention to the shale revolution in the United States. In the past decade, research has focused on the mechanism of shale oil and gas enrichment and sweet spot prediction. He has published 15 monographs and over 400 papers in academic journals both domestically and internationally, and has applied for 34 invention patents. He won one second prize for national invention and two second prizes for national scientific and technological progress.
